  1. Cool thanks for the how to video, now if I could only get Final Cut Pro I would be on my way… Saving up for that one..

    Great Job.

    • You’re welcome, man. This one’s pretty basic. Any program that allows you to split the screen or even do a wipe transition should be able to handle this effect.

I’ll post more about it in the near future. :)

  2. Aloha Bill,

Congrats on the new site! Great idea!

This is a great tip. Thanks for sharing and for the idea. So simple once you show us the trick.

I would add, after you’ve shot your first self (say, left side of the clip), you could place an external monitor or computer playing that clip just off camera, stage right. Then, when you’re shooting the right side of the clip, you can be looking at the monitor (stage right) which will make it look like you’re looking at your first self, and you can interact in “real time” with yourself from the first clip.

The main trick will be to get the timing down during the first clip.

    • That’s a good idea. Timing’s really important when you do effects like this. I tend to memorize what my dialogue is and mentally time it out, but your idea’s much more likely to yield exactly the results you want.

      Cheers! :D
